TedX New England “2024 Graphic Design Package”

In September 2024, at Parliament I served as the creative and design director for the graphic design package of TEDx New England’s debut at the Groton Hill Music Center, a stunning venue featuring a 1,000-seat concert hall.

The challenge was to develop supporting visual content for a three-hour series of TED Talks centered around the themes of Mind and Life, split into morning and afternoon sessions.

Historically, creating high-quality visuals for nonprofit events like this has been difficult due to limited funding and the sheer volume of custom content required for 11 talks—including bespoke animations and designs.

Drawing from my extensive experience in broadcast design, I devised a modular, template-driven approach. By focusing on a well-crafted overarching visual framework, I was able to build a flexible design system that balanced high production value with efficiency. This strategy allowed for unique, tailored visuals within a structured library, ensuring a polished and cohesive aesthetic without excessive manual creation.

Parliament donated my time as well as a small but mighty team of thee senior designers and animators who rocked it out of the park.

The following is the complete design document, including the creative brief I developed, which served as a living guide throughout the production. It effectively illustrates the strategic, aesthetic, and executional journey of bringing this package to life.

We created a series of modular loopable animations with on and off moves that would be loaded and triggered from our partner 4 Wall’s Disguise media servers. Any mortises would include corresponding mattes. Here are some examples of those files.

As outlined in the creative brief, the goal was to enhance the speakers' presence without creating distractions. We achieved this by incorporating elegant, slow-looping animations for the larger backgrounds, while transitions featured slightly faster yet lightweight motion elements to seamlessly wipe between backgrounds or introduce and remove mortises containing topical content.

The art team utilized a combination of C4D, Redshift, and After Effects, along with AI-generated elements that served as a foundation for compositing. Below are select stills from the talks, showcasing the graphical package in action.
